PICARIDIN

The effective DEET alternative

 

Picaridin is a well known and effective alternative to DEET that provides long lasting protection.  It was developed not only to repel insects but to offer a pleasant to use product that offered a light, clean feeling and odorless repellent.  Picaridin is formulated for the entire family. 

 

Our own testing on biting flies has been an eye opening experience.  We had used the Broad Spectrum product made by Sawyer as our absolute favorite for pests like green head flies and especially Deer flies.  We were disappointed when that product was discontinued.  We were skeptical about the effectiveness of picaridin  . . . were we ever wrong!  The picaridin in our opinion (non-scientific) performed beautifully.  It’s comfortable to use and really effective at the 20% level.

 

Picaridin which is also known around the world as KBR3023, or Bayrepel (a trademark of Bayer AG) was developed by Bayer, who began its research for a new active ingredient in the 1980’s.  The result in the opinion of many was the ideal repellent, which offered effective protection and comfortable use. PICARIDIN has been used worldwide since 1998, and is one of the best selling active ingredients in Europe and Australia. It has been recommended by the World Health Organization as the best protection against Malaria. 

 

As with any of the repellents we offer Picaridin should be used as part of an insect repellent system.  We strongly recommend the use of permethrin treatment for your clothing and a topical skin repellent such as picaridin on exposed skin.
