3M Clothing and Gear Treatment - 8 ounces
Odorless when dry - Will not harm gear
The introduction of permethrin in its synthetic form is one of the most significant accomplishments with respect to combating disease carrying insects. The DoD (Department Of Defense) system is rated at 99.99% effective as protection against ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, mites and more!
Permethrin in this formulation is used as a clothing treatment . . . which is the perfect delivery system. Your clothing by design protects you from outdoor threats. Permethrin when applied properly to your clothing actually bonds to the fabric, lasts for up to 6 weeks and can even withstand weekly detergent washings. Each 8-ounce trigger spray container is designed to treat one complete outfit with 6 ounces and 2 ounces to treat gear. This includes adult sized long pants, shirt and socks. Follow instructions and don't skimp.
There are two repellents you can depend on based upon extensive testing and long-term use. And it's the combination of these products that forms the foundation for the DOD system. How well does it work? In 1992 during Operation Restore Hope estimates ranged that as many as 10,000 soldiers would contract malaria, yet only 47 cases were reported. The major contributor to this low level is attributed to the DOD system. This system works on many insects including ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers, mites and more.
The DOD system has four key components for ticks:
- Clothing properly treated with permethrin
- Proper clothing including - long pants, long sleeve shirt - pants leg tucked in
- Exposed skin protected with a deet based repellent
- Daily personal tick inspections
Permethrin is a synthetic of a naturally occurring insecticide in a species of Chrysanthemum. As a repellent it is applied to clothing only. This clothing treatment has been in use for more than 25 years and has been proven safe and effective. Once clothing is treated, protection lasts up to six weeks. It will withstand weekly detergent launderings.
